On Saturday afternoon 1 December 2018, Mayday-SA hosted its annual end of year gathering to thank those people who have been a part of the “peer to peer” programme for the past year. Held at the Commercial Aviation Association of Southern Africa’s Gear Down put, this was an excellent opportunity for the members and their families to share in the success of the past year.
Third Initial Peer Training July 2018
The Mayday-SA training team kicked off the third Initial Peer training with an open day for industry. We invited guests from across the aviation sector, including operations managers and staff, aviation doctors, CAA inspectors from the Accident Investigation Division, ATNS and IFATCA representatives, and guests from Kenya and Namibia.
The speakers at the open day presented information on Mayday-SA, how it started, how it operates, and the need for peer support in the aviation industry. In addition, the guests were introduced to the basic skill of active listening, one of the elements that peers need in their toolbox of skills in order to help others.
The guests were also treated to a demonstration presented by two long-serving member of the peer team, Andre Kluyts and Koketso Ramokolo, who showed off their skills in active listening.
The day was enjoyed by all, and the industry role players left with a better understanding of the need for peer support, and exactly what Mayday-SA can offer.
